Join us at Caw Caw Interpretive Center in Ravenel, South Carolina as we explore the harsh realities of life for African men, women and children enslaved on Lowcountry rice plantations and the history of Caw Caw Swamp, named the Indigenous communities who used it as a hunting ground prior to European occupation.aw Caw Swamp is also the only documented site of the Stono Rebellion, was a part of several rice plantations and home to enslaved Africans who applied their skills and technical knowledge of rice agriculture to transform the local landscape into a vast series of rice fields.

**Please dress comfortably for the outdoors. We will be walking for about 2-3 miles. Sunscreen, water bottles, bug spray and binoculars are all encouraged. 

The Black and Brown Interpreters Network is a group of natural and cultural history interpreters and tour guides based in the Lowcountry and beyond who are dedicated to service, education and professional development in the field of heritage interpretation. 

In 2024 we will meet monthly to learn from our fellow Black and Brown Interpreters and tour guides; network, share opportunities for continuing education and scholarships, explore local history and more.

Our meetups are open to the community of Black and Brown people who identify as cultural/historical and natural history interpreters, tour guides and tour company owners; and/or Black and Brown people who have completed or plan to complete the National Association for Interpretation's Certified Interpretive Guide training course. These meetups are appropriate for ages 16+
